Benoist Apparu, Mayor, Former Minister, Châlons-en-Champagne, France

He was elected Member of the Parliament of the Marne district in 2007, re-elected in 2012. He chose not to stand for re-election in the 2017 legislative elections. He held ministerial responsibilities as Secretary of State for Housing and Urban Development and then Minister of Housing (2009-2012). Previously, he had held the positions of Chief of Staff to the Minister Delegate for Higher Education Xavier Darcos, and Advisor and then Deputy Director of the Cabinet of the Minister Delegate for Social Cohesion Catherine Vautrin. Benoist Apparu has also been locally elected in Châlons-en-Champagne (Marne district) since 2001. After having been deputy mayor in charge of sustainable development and vice-president of the urban community in charge of the environment and sustainable development, he was elected mayor in April 2014. He holds a DESS in international business law from the Panthéon-Sorbonne University and is Chairman of the Management Board of in'li, the number 1 intermediate housing rental company in Ile-de-France for young and middle-income working people.
