Rattan Lal, Ph.D., is Professor Emeritus of soil sciences and Director of the carbon management and storage Center, at Ohio State University. He is also adjunct professor of Iceland University. He holds a diploma in sciences of the agricultural University of Punjab, in Ludhiana; a Master in sciences of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute in New Delhi, and a PhD from Ohio State University. He was main researcher at Sydney University, Australia (1968-1969), soil physician at IITA, Ibadan, Nigeria (1970-1987). He is the author and co-author of nearly 1, 000 articles and more than 500 book chapters, he wrote 20 books and published and co-published 69 books. He is mentioned on Thomson Reuters’s List of the most influential scientific minds in the world (2014, 2015) and among the most quoted scientists (2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017). M. Lal was the President of the World Association for the conservation of soils and water (1987-1990), of the International Organization of research on soils and soil work (1988-1991), of the Soil Science Society of America (2006-2008) and is the current President of the International Union of soil sciences (2017-2018).
