Jean-Pierre Rennaud holds a PhD in biochemistry (INSA Lyon, France, 1981) and is Chairman of the Board of the French Agricultural School Montpellier SupAgro, a public scientific, cultural and professional establishment unique in Europe, open to the Mediterranean and the countries of the South, and focused on the following themes: Vines and wine, Sustainable development in the South, Support for agricultural education, Sustainable food, Agro-ecology, Digital agriculture, Innovation and entrepreneurship.
He is also co-founder and CEO of Livelihoods Venture, an impact investment fund created by private companies (Crédit Agricole SA, Danone, Firmenich, Hermès, Caisse des Dépôts Group, La Poste, Mars Inc., Michelin, SAP, Schneider Electric, Veolia and Voyageurs du Monde) to generate social, environmental and economic benefits in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Created in 2011, the first Carbon Livelihoods Fund invested 40 million euros in mangrove restoration, agroforestry and rural energy projects. The Livelihoods Fund for Family Farming, launched in 2015, which aims to enable companies to make their supply chains more sustainable while improving farmers' living conditions and promoting more environmentally friendly farming practices, will invest 120 million euros over 10 years. He began his career in 1983 with Groupe Danone, where he successively held the positions of Packaging Development Manager, Quality Manager, Production and Operations Manager and Human Resources Development Manager for 10 years. For the next 10 years, Jean-Pierre was plant manager then vice-president of operations in various business units (water, breweries, biscuits) of the Group. Finally, from 2004 to 2010, he held the position of Group Environment Director.
